Timber Harvests W-452 and 448 Tour Invitation – Housatonic State Forest – September 4, 2024, 8am-10am

You are invited to attend a public outreach tour of upcoming timber harvests, W-448 and W-452, at the Cream Hill Block of Housatonic State Forest, led by natural resource managers from the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP).

Two consecutive years of spongy moth (Lymantria dispar dispar) defoliation in 2021 and 2022, followed by a summer drought in 2022 in Northwest Connecticut, caused widespread decline and death of oak trees (and other tree species to a lesser degree). See the attached PDF Invitational Flyer for additional information.

The public outreach tour will be held on Wednesday, September 4th, 2024, from 8:00-10:00am in the Cream Hill Block of Housatonic State Forest. We will meet at Mansfield Rd, where it intersects Yelping Hill Road in Cornwall. If there is time and interest from attendees, we will then drive to the second site at Gold Road, where it intersects Cream Hill Rd in Cornwall. See the attached map for location details.

Please RSVP by September 2nd so adequate parking/logistics can be planned. There is limited parking available on site; carpool if possible.
