Coronavirus / Covid-19 Update, Vol. 42

February 4, 2021

Dear Friends,

We are encouraged by people beginning to get the vaccine.  Thanks again go to Park and Rec Director Jen Markow (860-480-0600) who has assisted many seniors in the registration process.  Many seniors (75 and over) are getting vaccinated at the High Watch Clinic in Kent on a walk-in basis.  The location is 17 Old Barn Road in Kent (behind House of Books and Kingsley Tavern) in the middle of Kent.  The Governor hopes to have the 74 to 65 age group be able to get registered next week.  People are reminded to sign up for a 2nd shot when receiving the first and register your inoculation thru V.A.M.S.

Heather Dinneen continues to get deliveries out to people with the Food & Fuel Fund.  Also, the volume of heating assistance applications are up – due to colder weather.

Heather’s food pantry wish list is:

Size 4 Diapers

Salad Dressings

Kid’s Snacks & Juice Boxes

Olive Oil

Dish Soap & Dishwasher Detergent

Items can be dropped inside the back doors of the UCC Church, or shipped directly from Boxed.com or other online retailers directly to UCC / Food Pantry – 8 Bolton Hill Road, Cornwall CT 06753

Also, message from Social Service Director, Heather Dinneen:

“Food Rescue, in partnership with Fresh Direct, are offering produce boxes to Cornwall households.  These are different from the USDA Food Boxes, which I know were not great.  The contents of these boxes include:  3lb bag Onions, 5lb bag potatoes, 1lb Carrots, 1 sleeve Celery, 1 Pepper, 1 Cucumber, 1 Pint Grape Tomatoes, 2lb bag Red Grapes, 1 Cantaloupe.

These boxes will be distributed in Cornwall on February 14th (details TBD).  If you are interested in a box/boxes, please use the form linked below!”

Thanks to the many people who have donated to the fund that allows us to get assistance to those in Town who truly need it.  Best wishes to stay safe.  Remember that even if you are vaccinated the CDC suggested continued wearing of masks and social distancing.

Sincerely,

Gordon Ridgway,

First Selectman
