Farming in the Northwest Corner: Education, Economics and Ecology – Zoom

May 8, 2021 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm EDT

Free. On Zoom. Registration required.

Did you know that the Ag program at the High School is called the Housatonic Valley Agriscience and Technology Program and it offers courses in Animal Science, Engineering and Mechanics, Food Science, Natural Resources and the Environment, and Plant Sciences/Horticulture?  Did you know that approximately half of all students at the Housatonic Valley Regional High School take classes in the program?

Join two of the four teachers in the program—Dave Moran and Audra Leach—in a discussion about the Agriscience program, its impact on young people and on the future of farming in the Northwest Corner. Dave Moran teaches Plant Science and Natural Resources/Environmental and has taught in the program for 25 years. Audra Leach teaches Mechanics and Engineering, and Natural Resource/Environmental and has taught in the program for 12 years. They will be joined in the discussion by long time Cornwall farmer Bill Hurlburt, the Cornwall rep on the Agricultural Education Advisory Committee.

The panel will be moderated by Cornwall resident and ecologist Peter Del Tredici who first met Dave Moran when they worked together at Harvard’s Arnold Arboretum many years ago.
