A walking (or shuttle) tour will follow and includes original leasehold sites and community buildings designed by pioneering architect Ruth Adams and located within the association’s more than 500 acres of woods and meadows. Admission is free for the afternoon talk and tour. \nThe evening party and auction starts at 6:00 p.m. and requires a paid ticket\, with proceeds supporting the programming and operations of the Cornwall Historical Society. Both are singers and 5-string banjo players. Bennett is an exceptional guitarist and Lorraine an exceptional Appalachian dulcimer player as well. \nThe program will feature songs that Lorraine learned while growing up in Cornwall and songs that she has written about her childhood there. DESCRIPTION:“The Autobiography of James Mars\, a Slave Born and Sold in Connecticut” is a puppet piece created by Robert Bresnick and Leslie Weinberg. The words spoken by the narrator are an edited text of the first half of the Mars autobiography\, ending at the point at which James is sold and walks by himself\, aged 8\, to Mr. Munger’s farm. The performance uses a tabletop stage and projected and animated backgrounds and shadow play\, as well as collaged paper puppets manipulated by two puppeteers. Recommended for ages 9 and older. This event is free\, but space is limited to 45 attendees. Registration is required.
