SUMMARY:Birding with Phone Apps - Rattlesnake Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Note that the dates/times for these events have changed as of May 6. \nCome unscramble the multiple wonders of finding\, reporting\, and identifying birds using phone apps. What are the differences between BirdsEye\, eBird\, Merlin\, iBirdPro\, and Seek/iNaturalist?  There are also many other apps useful for bird identification (e.g.\, Sibley\, Peterson\, Audubon\, & NatGeo guides\, Warbler Guide\, Birds of the World\, BirdSongID\, Chirp!BirdSongs)?  Which are most useful and under what circumstances?  What other bird apps might be useful (e.g.\, BirdCodes).  Naturalists Larry Master and Ella Clark will lead this walk and discussion on May 7 at 1 pm and May 14 at 7:30 am at Rattlesnake Preserve. Enter opposite 11 Rattlesnake Road. Be prepared for sun and ticks\, and see the powerful advice here on our website about using permethrin spray to completely avoid ticks! No dogs\, please. \nWe have added a second presentation early in the morning in order to see more and different kinds of birds. The afternoon will still have a few to see and the presentation of technology is the same but we recommend the earlier venue. \nDr. Master is a conservation biologist\, a zoologist\, published author in scientific journals\, and\, in his retirement\, a conservation photographer. He has been photographing wildlife and natural history subjects for more than 65 years and resides in Keene\, NY and Cornwall\, CT.  See an amazing collection of wildlife images on his website: www.masterimages.org.

SUMMARY:Walk and Talk about Meadow Management with Peter Del Tredici
DESCRIPTION:August 28\, 3 pm\, at Furnace Brook Preserve\, meet at Foote Field\, Route 4\n**Note change in location \nTake a walk with Harvard botanist and Cornwall resident Peter Del Tredici to discuss the various aspects of Meadow Management. Everyone loves meadows but in this part of New England they are an artifact of agriculture and ongoing maintenance is required in order to keep woody plants—including both native and invasive species—from eventually taking them over. Peter will discuss some of the techniques that can be used to help keep Cornwall’s open land open. \nSorry\, this event is a dog-free walk. \nPlease see www.cornwallconservationtrust.org for updates.
