DESCRIPTION:Elections will be held on Tuesday\, November 4 at the Town Hall\, 24 Pine Street from 6 AM to 8 PM to cast votes for First Selectman\, Selectman\, Town Clerk\, Treasurer\, Board of Finance\, Board of Education\, Board of Assessment Appeals\, Planning & Zoning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals. Voting tabulators will be used. Absentee ballots will be counted at the polls. \nAbsentee ballots will be available after October 3 Town Clerk hours are Monday –Thursday from 9–noon and 1–4. Please don’t wait until the last minute to apply for your absentee ballot\, especially if there is mailing involved. Completed application can be placed in the designated secure drop box outside the town clerk’s office or mailed. Completed ballots can also be placed in the drop box or mailed. Ballots must be received by the Town Clerk by 8 PM on election day. Do not take your absentee ballot to the polling place on Election Day. The town clerk must submit the ballots to the polling place. \nEarly Voting at Town Hall starts on October 20 and runs daily through November 2 from 10-6 PM except October 28 and 30 where hours are 8-8 PM. \nThe deadline to register by mail or online is Oct 17. The Registrars will have a registration session Oct 17 from 9 AM-8 PM. Same Day Registration is available during Early Voting and on Election Day.

SUMMARY:Sites of Controversy: From Cornwall's Memorials to the 9/11 with Jake Barton - Library
DESCRIPTION:In America\, the past never seems to settle\, but is rather ever renewed as the epicenter for present battles. This is exemplified by Cornwall’s own memorials to the Civil War and The First Foreign Mission School\, both erected with great pride in their day\, and both suddenly controversial by our back to back eras of Black Lives Matter and Trump. Jake Barton has spent his career designing projects like the 9/11 Memorial Museum\, the media for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture\, and Greenwood Rising the Tulsa Race Massacre Museum. In this talk\, he will explore how\, regardless of scale\, Memorials and Museums are built to concretize the past\, ie “never forget”\, but instead become lightning rods for conflict\, drawing out controversies in their creation\, and ongoing wars as our culture evolves over time. \nJake Barton is the Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Local Projects\, an experience and exhibit design firm that creates groundbreaking and personal experiences. His credits include landmark projects like the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum\, the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum\, the London Mithraeum\, and the Cleveland Museum of Art. \nRegistration is required at cornwalllibrary.org.
