The artist’s reception which will take place from 6-8\, features an exhibition of original watercolors and oils from the book\, and will be on display and for sale. SUMMARY:Opening Reception - "SAMPLER" - Souterrain Gallery
DESCRIPTION:The Souterrain Gallery will host its first of the Season Opening Reception on Saturday\, May 28 from  3-6 pm for a group of young artists. \nS A M P L E R\nBound by an interest in craft and materiality\, seven artists explore drawing with alternative techniques. The ceramic sculptures of Sam Berenfield harken a nostalgia for childhood that is challenged by the expressive quilts and drawings of Noah Pica\, whose work evokes an unflinching humor and sensuality that confront the viewer with color and form. Beautifully sensitive drawings by Krista Young respond to the frenetic and ornate patchwork quilt of Emma Redmond. Elizabeth Schweizer and Stefan Sehringer converse through weaving: material dances in the works of Sehringer\, while Schweizer’s surreal images develop through the shifting of color and pattern. Cassie Sheedy intertwines two and three dimensions with multimedia wall reliefs in wood and on paper. Together the artists grapple with the anxiety of being young during uncertain times\, of finding and forging a place to call their own.  \nJazz by Carol Leven and Nick Moran \nAll are welcome!

SUMMARY:Joel Simon - Library
DESCRIPTION:As the Infodemic raged\, autocratic governments used the public health emergency to usurp new powers\, while democratic populists\, including President Donald Trump in the United States\, Jair Bolsonaro In Brazil; and Narendra Modi in India\, attacked and undermined the independent institutions that challenged their narrative that COVID was under control and would disappear like magic. A global wave of censorship hid from us a broader assault on rights that bolstered autocrats and deepened the democratic recession.  \nThese are some of the arguments that Joel Simon and his co-author Rob Mahoney make in their new book\, The Infodemic: How Censorship and Lies Made the World Sicker and Less Free. The book is out April 26\, from Columbia Global Reports. \nJoel will discuss his book live at the Cornwall Library.  He will be interviewed by Anne Garrels\, who was the Senior Foreign Correspondent for NPR for almost 25 years.   \nSpace is limited\, please register at cornwalllibrary.org.
