DESCRIPTION:Roxana Geffen will teach a 2 1/2 hour collage workshop for up to 25 adults.   Fee: $25 per person.  Saturday\,  August 5 from 10am until 12:30pm.  Registration is required at Cornwalllibrary.org.\n \n“Everyday the tide of my life leaves piles of small things on my shore: opened envelopes\, scraps of fabric\, candy wrappers\, bits of plastic or metal. Every once in a while something with an interesting shape\, or exciting color combination or intricate pattern will catch my eye and I’ll save it. Through my collages I assemble these pieces into a new whole. I look at the things’ formal qualities (size\, shape\, color\, texture) and work to create a new world for them\, a visual landscape where a long strip of yellow envelope or lollipop wrapper feels essential.\n \nYou too can make art out of your life! Bring your own scraps and join me in collage-making. Bring any small things that seem interesting looking to you and can reasonably be glued or stitched to a piece of paper. You will also have your pick of scraps from my collection. Together we will find ways to look at and combine them all\, making new worlds out of old things.”\n \nInstructions\, paper\, additional collage materials\, needles and thread\, glue and scissors will be provided.\n \nWorkshop schedule:\n-Roxana will talk about her work in the show (20 mins with questions)\n-Then she will explain the process she uses to make the collages and distribute materials (20 mins)\n-Roxana will help people make their own collages and will photograph the collages at the end

DESCRIPTION:The 2nd Annual Taste of Cornwall is coming and it is expanding this year. It will be held on August 11th from 5-8pm. \nNot only will you get to taste the foods of Cornwall\, but you can “taste” the businesses in Cornwall.  \nWe invite all businesses\, crafters\, and artisans to come out and show off what you do for the community.  \nNot many people really know just how many businesses and services are offered right here in town and what a great way to let people know that you are here for them!  \nAt last year’s event we had people attend who live outside of Cornwall\, so this is a chance to open up new areas for your business.  \nEvent details: 5-6pm is specifically time for festival goers to walk around\, shop\, and explore the Cornwall businesses and non-profits before dinner and music begin. \nHenhouse Prowlers will be performing from 6-8 pm. (They are a great band that not only tours nationally\, but they also tour internationally\, so we are very excited to have them performing for our event!!) \nWe will once again have a tasting buffet of meats\, produce\, and many other delicious savory and sweet treats from home kitchens in the NW Corner\, all of which you can find in Cornwall. It will be served starting at 6 pm until we run out. \nWe will have a “vendors row” for those selling items and a “helping hands” area for non-profits and businesses that are not selling things.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: "Notes on Clarissa\, Volume II: A Selection\, collages by Gelah Penn" - Library
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception Saturday\, September 16 from 5pm – 7pm.  The show will be on display through October.  Registration is requested for the opening reception.  \nNotes on Clarissa is an ongoing project inspired by the 18th-century epistolary novel Clarissa by Samuel Richardson. The novel’s four-volume story is told primarily through the correspondence (500+ letters) between its four principal characters\, and details the drama of a young woman’s seduction\, violation\, and ultimate tragedy. Each volume of Notes on Clarissa uses source images of one of Penn’s site-responsive installations\, and each collage alludes to one of the letters in the novel. The 129 collages of Volume II are derived from 5 x 7-inch printed cards of Penn’s 2017 installation Situations\, Zone 6 (Rockland) in “Materiality: The Matter of Matter” at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockland\, ME. The exhibition at the Cornwall Library includes 20 collages from Volume II.
