M. join a drama\, music & endangered species puppet making workshop that will culminate in a 5:00 pm spectacular Earth Day Pageant on the Town  Green with live music provided by Berkshire Resilience Brass Band and Jane Prentice on fiddle. Ellen Moon will be featured in her larger than life Golden Lady Puppet.  A gigantic oil spill costume will be featured along with Trash Creatures\,  Whales\, Rainbows\, and more!  A potluck dinner to follow at 5:30 in Cornwall Town Hall. (Rain or shine! the parade and festivities will be held inside Town Hall if it rains). \nPlease register for the 3:00-5:00 pm if possible in advance! Beers Charitable Trust (also known as Housatonic Valley Institute – HVI) was established in 1925 and has been quietly assisting Cornwall residents achieve their higher education goals for almost 100 years.  \nIn 2021\, HVI began a restructuring process and expanded the ways in which it supports education.  Currently\, HVI is providing Cornwall residents with scholarships of $7\,000 for the first year and $2\,000 for each subsequent year for students entering a 2-year college\, 4-year college\, or technical training institute.  The application deadline is May 15 of the senior year.  \nHVI also provides up to $2000 to high school students for education programs that help students learn about a specialized area of study related to possible future career interests.  Adults seeking further education through courses or training programs may also apply for this scholarship.  Applications may be submitted anytime throughout the year. \nA new category of support is the educator grants to Cornwall educators as a way to support the PreK-8 education programs in our town. \nNow that the restructuring of HVI is almost complete\, the trustees next mission has been to get the word out about these opportunities and hope that Cornwall residents can take advantage of them to further their own education and add to the richness of our town.  \nApplications are available through Cornwallct.org\, by selecting the Community tab and navigating to Local Non-Profits.  https://cornwallct.org/community/local-non-profits/housatonic-valley-institute-silas-c-beers-charitable-trust/ \nYou can also email the trustees at hvicharitabletrust@gmail.com

SUMMARY:HACKS Covered Bridge Slalom
DESCRIPTION:HACKS Covered Bridge Slalom\, part of the New England Slalom Series\, a ten-race series. \nPractice will be all day Saturday\, May 18th\, and the actual slalom race will take place on Sunday\, May 20th from about 9 – 3\, longer if there is a large turnout. Each boat gets to take 2 runs on the course\, the better of the 2 runs is the one that counts. Colorful poles are hung over the river and boaters must navigate through them without touching the poles\, each pole touch adds time to the score. \nThe New England Slalom Series (NESS) is a whitewater slalom series designed and run for racers in open canoes (0pen boats)\, K1\, C1\, & C2 slalom boats (closed boats)\, and all types of plastic whitewater boats.
