DESCRIPTION:Elections will be held on Tuesday\, November 3rd at the Town Hall\, 24 Pine Street from 6am to 8pm to cast votes for Governor\, Lieutenant Governor\, U.S. Senator\, Representative in Congress\, State Senator\, State Representative\, Secretary of the State\, Treasurer\, Comptroller\, Attorney General\, Judge of Probate and Registrars of Voters. \nAbsentee ballots will be available after October 2nd from the Town Clerk during normal office hours or go to MyVote.CT.gov \nCompleted applications and completed ballots can be placed in the designated secure drop box outside the Town Clerk’s office at 26 Pine Street or can be mailed. \nPlease don’t wait until the last minute to apply for your absentee ballot\, especially if there is mailing involved. The completed ballots must be returned by 8pm on election day. \nEarly Voting will start on Oct 19 and go through Nov 1. 10 am -6 pm\, 8am -8pm on Tuesday Oct 27th & Thursday Oct 29th

DESCRIPTION:Tuesday mornings\, September 29\, 2026\, through November 17\, 2026\, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. \nIn the 1940s\, Harvard scholar F. O. Matthiessen reinvented U. S. literary history by resurrecting the almost forgotten writers from the years before the Civil War: Hawthorne\, Thoreau\, Melville\, and Whitman (along with the still-recognized Emerson). Since then\, Matthiessen’s roll call of the greats has dominated much of what we see as the move from the early Republic to the Civil War crack-up in 1861. However\, Matthiessen’s scholarship omitted vast swaths of writers who didn’t fit his notion of the Transcendentalist mindset. In this literary seminar\, we’ll take our initial cue from Matthiessen but work to expand his cast of authors by including other voices\, thereby broadening the scope of what it meant to be a U.S. citizen in the fateful years before the chaos. \nLive only.
