SUMMARY:The History of Lahaina on Maui - Library
DESCRIPTION:Susanna Moore and Robert Becker in conversation about the historic town of Lahaina on Maui that was destroyed by wildfires in August\, at the Cornwall Library on December 2nd at 4 pm.  The Hawaii raised novelist\, memoirist and historian Susanna Moore will join Robert Becker\, author\, historian of Hawaii and descendant of Hawaii missionaries to discuss the complex layers of culture and history that Lahaina represented and embodied prior to being leveled by the fires.  Through selected readings and a discussion\, followed by Q & A\, Moore and Becker will also talk about the efforts to recover and rebuild Lahaina.  Any donations made as a result of this conversation should go directly to the Maui Strong fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation.  \n \nMoore is the author of the novels My Old Sweetheart\, The Whiteness of Bones\, In the Cut and most recently The Lost Wife\, as well as I Myself Have Seen it: The Myth of Hawaii and Paradise of the Pacific: Approaching Hawaii. Becker was the arts editor of Andy Warhol’s Interview\,  is the author of Nancy Lancaster; Her Life\, Her World\, Her Art\, and is currently at work on a history of American colonialism in Hawaii. He has contributed to articles about Hawaii to Granta and Hyperallergic and is president of the board of directors of the Merwin Conservancy on Maui.\nRegistration is requested at cornwalllibrary.org.
