The Cornwall Internet Committee believes every Cornwall resident and business should have reliable, affordable, and high speed internet service. People are working from home, schooling at home, communicating and being entertained through the internet, and young families and businesses are requiring high speed internet service.

A high-priority goal of Cornwall’s 2020 Town Plan of Conservation and Development is for “a plan to enhance broadband, cell, and internet services as an economic strategy, while maintaining optimum health standards”. Our cable system is nearly saturated with data flow, and a fiber optic network will provide both faster-speeds and nearly limitless capacity. To date our internet providers have not given our town a definitive plan nor timeline to install a fiber network.

Our committee, all volunteers, will investigate how to bring a fiber optic network to Cornwall. We will research how other towns have succeeded and funded this connectivity. We will speak with experts and seek their guidance. And we hope each Cornwall resident and business will give us their input. Our goal is simple: to develop a fall-back fiber optic plan for our town to discuss and consider. We also will develop suggestions on how people can maximize the speed of their current internet service.

The first thing you can do to help us in our research is complete our Internet Survey. See the box to the right for the link.

The Cornwall Economic Development Commission, the Cornwall Conservation Commission, and the Cornwall Association are co-sponsoring a town-wide event to discuss and talk about the results of the Cornwall Internet Survey Report. All Cornwallians are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and share opinions and ideas about Cornwall’s future internet/broadband needs.
